Proxmox VM ID Generator
Generate unique, valid Proxmox VMIDs in a range you choose — instantly, in your browser.
What is a Proxmox VM ID?
Every virtual machine and container in Proxmox VE is identified by a numeric VMID. Proxmox requires VMIDs to be unique across the cluster and to fall within a valid range — from 100 up to 999,999,999. Picking IDs by hand gets error-prone once you run many guests, so this tool generates unique IDs in the range you choose.
How to use it
Set how many IDs you need and the minimum and maximum of your range, then generate. The tool guarantees the IDs are unique and inside the range; copy them and use them when creating VMs or containers. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is sent anywhere.
Tips for VMID schemes
Many teams reserve ID blocks per node, per customer or per environment (for example 1000–1999 for one node, 2000–2999 for another) so an ID hints at where a guest lives. Whatever scheme you use, keeping IDs unique and predictable pays off when you automate provisioning.
Frequently asked questions
What is the valid range for Proxmox VMIDs?
Proxmox VE accepts VMIDs from 100 to 999999999. This tool defaults to a sensible range and lets you set your own.
Are the generated IDs guaranteed unique?
Yes — within a single generation, every ID is unique. Always confirm the ID is not already in use on your cluster before assigning it.
Does this contact my Proxmox server?
No. The generator runs entirely in your browser and never connects to your infrastructure.
